I have two cats, one is 11lbs and the other is 15lbs. Both love this scratcher and scratch is at least 10 times a day. With that frequency, my first one lasted an impressive two years. Granted at the end it was looking real frizzy. One thing I love about it is that since you assemble it yourself, when the top portion of the scratcher is all scratcher up, you can simply take apart flip the middle column for it to be used again like new.
