Massage the base of your cat's ear for two minutes to help distribute the oil evenly. Then allow your cat to shake her head to remove any excess oil. Repeat this process once daily for 14 days.

A third treatment option is Revolution, which is a topical medication that not only kills existing ear mites but also prevents new ones from taking up residence in your cat's ears. Revolution is available by prescription from your veterinarian.

Preventing Ear Mite Infestations In Cats

The best way to prevent an infestation of ear mites is to try to occasionally clean your cat’s ears because it is difficult for your cat to clean their ears. Occasional ear cleaning can also help prevent some future ear problems before they actually can happen. Also, try to  keep your home clean and free of clutter where pests can hide. Vacuum regularly and wash all bedding in hot water once a week. It's also important to avoid letting other animals come into contact with your cat if they have any signs of parasites such as fleas or ticks. If you must take your cat to a groomer or boarding facility, make sure they are up-to-date on all vaccinations and parasite prevention medications prescribed by your veterinarian first.
