You can leave it on 24/7 and track active time, sleep minutes, etc. but because of the size I only put the tracker on my cats when they're outside and switch to regular collars indoors. 2) there is a light you can turn on if your pet is in the dark to make the tracker easier to see, but it's really small. Given the size of the tracker it seems the light could be enlarged. When pets are in your designated 'safe zone' it shows where they are and you can only turn on live tracking if they go past the safe zone you've set. When you get close enough it starts letting you know how many feet away the pet is. I do notice that one cat's tracker runs through its battery quite a bit faster than the other. I have never written a review about a product before but this one deserves a thumbs up. I love this device. My cat hides in the bushes when he is sick. I can't find him to bring him in at night. Since I live on 3 acres heavily wooded and landscaped it is very easy for him to hide. We have lots of predators....cayotes, foxes, owls. I have had my cattailer for about 10 days and it has already changed my life. I purchased a GPS which was a big disappointment. Perhaps I bought a bad brand. It didn't track well and it had to be charged, meaning if it ran out of power it would not track my cat! The cattailer has a 6 month replaceable battery. Huge advantage.
