What We Like About This Travel Guide

Throughout the past 20 years, I have traveled to 43 countries on 5 continents with a trusted lonely planet in my hand. These guidebooks are more for those that wish to get their hands a little dirty and immerse yourself inside the culture. If you happen to travel in a resort-like fashion, I would still recommend them for day trips that will take you outside the confines of your comfort zone beyond the walls. With the country's detailed history, language guide, and general culture chapters, I have repeatedly been thrown into life changing experiences around the globe. Hands down, you truly can't go wrong.-Amazon Review By Scott Bruschetti

What We Love About This Caribbean Travel Guide

Great book that has all the information you need to maximize your trip to the Caribbean! Used it everyday on our cruise.-Amazon Review By Kelly J.

Wow, this is an enormous 960 page Caribbean travel guide. It covers so many locations that you can just grab this book and attempt to see all the little and big lands the Caribbean has to offer, and there are quite a few of them to say the least. When you get past the books index you get to some excellent maps that show you exactly where all the locations are and gives you a bit of information about each. This is great because it gets the areas in your mind a bit so that when you get more into the guide and start really finding out about the individual places you have a grasp as to where they are

This guide starts with some neat features that I really enjoyed reading through. The first of these features being "20 Ultimate Experiences" and this just gives you twenty things that are things that are at the top of this books list that could make your trip the most memorable possible. After that the guide gives things like best beaches, best all-inclusive resorts, best restaurants, etc. This is great as well.

The guide also has a section that tells you things about how you can travel smart. This is one of the best parts of the book because if you're not a seasoned traveler, are seasoned but never been to the Caribbean, anything like that this part really gives out great information to make your trip the best possible.

In order to save time here, I'm not going to break down everything else in here section by section. For most of the rest of the book you'll get to see a place by place breakdown of all the different places you might go to. Each location comes with a full color map that shows the entire town or island. That starts it off. Then inside you will also find smaller broken down maps that break down important areas and these are marked with points of interest and labeled. These sections contain places to shop, eat, sleep, see, find nightlife fun, etc. Just about anything you are looking for. They have all the information you could possibly need.

This is getting really long so I'll end this review by recommending this. If you are planning a trip to these areas you need this guide. If you are never getting there and want to just see the area in your mind, you need this. If you love to read about travel, you need this. It's beautifully illustrated and chock full of information. It's brilliant.-Amazon Review By Shelly Hammond

Why We Like This Caribbean Travel Guide

As an experienced traveler of many world destinations, I love DK best of all travel guides as they give me great information on the culture and history of the places I go and highlight sites and locations I might otherwise miss. Other guides seem more full of touristy shopping tips; fine for those with little or no interest in the identity and background of a location. This guide was a great help in planning excursions, and when not to, from a cruise that went to 12 different islands.-Amazon Review By Cariad

This guidebook was already one of the best even in the old format, but I was infuriating that (like all major ones) they ignored Haiti, a poor country, but actually fascinating, unique and as safe to visit as it’s touristy neighbor, which actually has a higher crime rate. Fodor’s and Lonely Planet in newest editions still ignore Haiti, DK now covers it. The main cities, I’d add coverage of Port-de-Paix and Tortuga, for the adventurous, but Port-au-Propince, the south and Cap are nicely covered. Fun fact, their own site as of today does NOT mention Haiti as covered. They must have copy and pasted coverage from previous addition.

Apart from being the first guidebook to add Haiti, the DK book is stellar. Good background info, nice and current practical info. Interesting insider tips and nice photography. Also newer editions are paperback and printed on ecologically friendly non glossy paper. Which doesn’t make the photos look worse at all, unlike some suspected, and yet drastically reduces the ecological footprint of DK guidebooks.-Amazon Review By Michael Porecki

2. Keep looking for price drops all the way up until a few days before you set sail.

3. If you like to drink alcoholic beverages and your cruise ship does not offer unlimited and free alcoholic drinks then you may consider buying a drink package so that you know that you do not have to worry about overspending on alcoholic drinks.

4. Make sure that if you are sailing for the first time that you know what kind of room that you are getting. Does it have a Queen size bed; a double bed; or will you have bunk beds.

5. Be prepared to be flexible with your port stops because weather may cause your ship to miss a port stop that you thought you were definitely going to.

6.Try to roll your clothes when you pack them so that they do not get as wrinkled because many cruise ships will not allow you to bring an iron; and ask for extra hangers when you get on the ship so that you have enough to hang your clothes up with.

7. Bring formal wear because many people like to dress up for dinner or wear their formal clothes if there is a formal function.

8.If you bring expensive jewelry, keep it locked up in the safe on the ship or bring your own small safe with you. You can also bring your cubic zirconia rings if you really feel uncomfortable bringing your expensive jewelry.

Don'ts

1.If you know of someone who has been on a cruise and they tell you all what their cruise ship had to offer; do not think that your cruise ship will offer the same exact amenities and/or perks. Many cruise ships are different from each other and offer different things.

2. Don’t forget to get a check in time because if you wait until the last minute to check in; you may be one of the last persons to board the ship.

3.Don’t wait to purchase shore excursions. If there is a place that you want to go to when that boat does go to a specific port try to pay for that tour or for those places that you want to visit before you go on the trip if it is possible.

4.Do not bring beach towels because they are supplied on the ship. Most ships already have bath towels and pool towels.
